English Version:

Are you fans of Rally? Do you have a lump in your throat, every time you think over the tremendous Group B of the '80s? Consider the '70s like the “Rally Golden Age”?
Well, the place where you had to find yourself last weekend was Daun. It is a  hilly small village of 8,000 citizens, that is located on the Eifel Rhine’s plateau, West Germany. This was the  location ,where the fifth edition of the Eifel Rally Festival has been staged!
It was for us of Audi Sport Club the first participation, unfortunately we have been there only as audience. It was not a reason to regret  for us, otherwise the show was  unequivocally adrenaline anyway!
As soon as we arrived on Thursday evening we realized, that the atmosphere was imbued with passion.
The whole village has been involved in this spectacular event,  that hogs for three days long the village center  and surrounding hills in a continuous cars parade.
Those vehicles have been seen live from much people in the past, who has been lucky enough to see them pushed at their most power in person. Instead most of us had to do only with You Tube videos!
Let’s return to our journey: all the experience has been more than what we expected.
Going back to our four-day trip, the whole thing was well above expectations.
We started on Thursday morning  in three guys, with full packed luggage, driving a versatile Audi A4 allroad 2.0 TDI, which was kindly  offered by Audi Italy. The car has demonstrated to be very comfortable and  careful in consumption. It needed 6,5 liters diesel for 100 km. more or less , in other terms a usage of a liter for 16 km.
Along the journey we decided another stop-over!
A short visit to the New Audi Sport headquarters, which is situated in Neuburg an der Donau, near Ingolstadt: we could not avoid it!
We could see up close the new TT, that was engaged in TT Cup and the new R8, a real supercar , that is becoming a even more muscular car. We also observed the guests, that were testing the cars in part of the circuit, which has been enlarge for the occasion. The circuit runs both on asphalt and on dirty road, where all “four rings cars” are developed; the same cars that thrill us fans, when they are competing on the track!
After this first taste of horse power motor, we left to northwest, slowing down only by some queuing, we have done because of several work in progress on the way, as long as we finally arrived in Daun.
At the moment of parking we soon had already realized the atmosphere: motors, passion and legends!
Yes, real legend: both on four-wheel and two legs! We had first a fast visit of the service park among real original autos and high level reproductions. For example, you can’t often see the Ford Sierra RS Cosworth GR.A of 1988 with which Stig Blomqvist won the Rally of Portugal and that he himself would have drive again the next day. Or enjoy the same Audi Sport quattro GR.B, that won the Monte Carlo Rally of 1985 with Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdörfer, which is now set up with the San Remo livery and has been brought directly from Audi Tradition and that we had the pleasure to exhibit in our stand at the cars fair “Auto e Moto d’Epoca” in 2012.
Then we blended us in the after shakedown party, between pilots, cutlets sandwiches and beer rivers, with the greatest regret of the evening designated driver.
In this atmosphere it has happened to walk among people who have made the history of rallies, such as Christian Geistdörfer, the organizer and promoter of the event, who is  always very kind to us. It is not to forget that he was world rally champion in 1980 and 1982 alongside Walter Röhrl, who also  was there and always accessible with his fans; there were Sandro Munari with his faithful navigator Piero Sodano, who were matadors with the Lancia Stratos in the 70s; Timo Salonen was there too with the legendary Peugeot 205 T16 and also another historic crew: Hannu Mikkola and Arne Hertz, world champions in 1983 too with the 'Audi A2.
The evening let us already realize the friendly and family atmosphere,  that there would be in the following days. After a well deserved rest, on Friday morning we came back from Daun center as planned, where the cars would leave the stage at 14.
In that time we finally have been able to see them under the sun  light, more than 150 beautiful cars, covering the rally history from the '60s to the late 90s.
We could scan all the most famous: Opel Kadett, Porsche 911, Ford RS 200, Lancia Stratos and Delta, Fiat 131 Abarth, Peugeot 205 T16, Audi 4 and Sport 4, but also less common cars, such as the charming Trabant P800RS GR.A 1986 or 1600 1972 Jide!
In the afternoon, we moved and positioned along the first round: the Bosch Super Stage, a dirty track that from 2012 aims to recall the epic of the Safari Rally.
We chose the place where it was set up it after the ford. After that we admired the last cars in a fast right band,  receiving a large dose of powder too... the right price to pay for the offered show!
After the first step we relocated us in the late afternoon on a comfortable hill near an interesting bend, before the start of the forest. Temperature was always good  until we were caught in a sudden downpour, that ruined the last show passages and the following village party. We did not regret too much, because the lights, the rain and the night let everything more fascinating.
Saturday, the second day, at 9:46 we calmly reach the 5th trial, which provided a change over afternoon at 14:30.
We were in some sort of unstable weather company,  which was changing from windy to rainy periods  and became  sunny and calm again. We spent a fresh air and dumpy day, admiring vehicles, standing in a concave area, where there were first a depression and after that a rise and many direction changes. The show has been granted also thanks to a slippery path caused by the rain. More than one pilot has risked to get off road and visit the near fields, even if he wasn’t pushing the power to the maximum limit.
At the end of  the last race we returned to the village, where they were doing the last phases  on the stage, with the greeting the competitors to give us then the appointment for the final award, that was presented by our friend and member Christian Geistdörfer.
During the presentation few awards have been given from various champions: Walter Röhrl, Timo Salonen, Hannu Mikkola, Arne Hertz, Stig Blomqvist, Sandro Munari and Piero Sodano.
One of those has been given to  the most unlucky competitor: Enda Garvey, in other terms the owner of the original Peugeot 405 T16 of Juha Kankkunen, which has been the key player in 1988 at Pikes Peak and long-awaited for the event, but unfortunately could not be raised, due to mechanical problems. An unforgettable car, that has been kept life by the victory of Ari Vatane competition and, I am sure, you would have admired it in “Climb Dance”film.
The speciality was the 1st award, which has been given for the best car of the festival: the vehicle n. 6 driven by Sandro Munari and Piero Sodano, an original Lancia Stratos Gr.4 1977, owned by Guido Avandero.
The car has been selected from the present champions as the best ever: an important recognition for a milestone rally car: the Stratos and a brand: the Lancia, which has made the history of the rally, but today it is unfortunately almost disappeared.
As soon as the formal part ended, the real party has started again with celebrations and talks about the days just passed, between: mechanics, organizers and spectators.
What could be added?
Nothing! The experience was great; the only flaw is unfortunately the distance: 1000 km are certainly not few, in fact, on Sunday the return departure was at 6 am, to avoid possible traffic problems. But it is worth it, of course: so many emotions, so many cars that had never been able to be seen  live and in action. So many legendary driver participants were there and mixed themselves  with amateurs  in a spontaneous way.
In short terms: two excellent  days between motors and fans.
It is definitely to be repeat, if you still want to breathe again the past rally spirit, the rally that move air, just like here and now competitions or maybe even more!
A Special heartfelt thanks to our friend and honorary member Christian Geistdörfer for letting us discover and experience  this wonderful event.

Gar nichts!
